Volunteers Information System

Welcome to Nepal Red Cross Society Volunteer blog.

Since its inception in 1963, Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) has grown into one of the largest organizations in the country. It has expanded its network and extended its activities to all the 75 districts of the country through effective mobilization of volunteers, staffs and community based societies and sororities. The adoption of Red Cross principles in providing services and the spirit of volunteerism and altruism espoused by Nepal Red Cross human resources of all levels and their adherence to impartiality have enhanced the image of NRCS. Nepal Red Cross Society’s image as an impartial organization has resulted in acceptability and unhindered accessibility of NRCS volunteers to all parties involved in a conflict. The Society has been able to mobilize a large number of volunteers as well as considerable resources for its programs, both internally and externally. It has earned the trust and confidence of the general masses throughout the country.

Nepal Red Cross Society endorsed a Volunteering policy in 2002 with a clear definition of the ‘volunteer’ in the recent constitution of NRCS. Accordingly, NRCS has two types of Volunteers - governance volunteers and program volunteers. Governance volunteers are the elected members of the organization and work at the different levels to which they have been elected. The program volunteers are involved in the conduct of specific programs at the public contact level and have been categorized into professional and general volunteers. Volunteers enjoy doing what they do, that is, helping people, and one gets a good deal out of the social side of being part of the NRCS program volunteer team.

All volunteers are actively involved in the programs to provide better service to the vulnerable community. The latest strategy plan has laid out multi-type implementation strategies; among them volunteer management is one strategy drawn to implement the programs of NRCS with focus on increasing volunteer involvement and participation as well as leadership and skill development.

For better and more efficient planning, mobilization, recognition and retention, Nepal Red Cross Society has, with the support of the Swedish Red Cross, started a database system of all volunteers and capacity building programs initiated since the last few years. The database will provide information on NRCS volunteers. For better utilization and updating of information, we request you to visit the site to see what good our volunteers are doing for those vulnerable who are in dire need. We solicit your valuable support and regular feedback.
